November 2011 Meeting: Speaker will be Mark Mackey on stream salamander research in the Appalachian Mountains

Location: Cincinnati Nature Center, Rowe Woods

Mark Mackey is a 4th year PhD candidate in the division of Biological Sciences in Ray Semlitsch's lab at the University of Missouri.
Mark will be speaking about his research which involves the conservation and management of stream salamanders on golf courses in the "salamander captial of the world"-the southern Appalachian Mountains. He is using his research to develop scientifically based management techniques that can be implemented on golf courses and similar human dominated landscapes to promote amphibian diversity.
